The Bible is filled with things that’ll light the curiosity in ones mind. The question is, can life coaching relate with the Bible? And if it can, how can we apply it to our coaching career? What are some things we can learn from the holy people of God? What can we learn from the life of Jesus? You will be surprised how the Word of God can fit into coaching.. (and even be the prime foundation of it.)
People get surprised when they actually start to read the Bible; because it’s not as how the media portrays it. The word Bible simply means “book,” and it’s the book that has the solutions for problems that at times we make hard for ourselves. Now, what does life coaching have to do with the Bible? The word “coaching” isn’t found anywhere in scripture, so how can us coaches relate to the Bible and use some of it’s wisdom to coach? Let’s answer a few questions here, what does a life coach do? The goal of life coaching is to form a relationship with the client, helps clients achieve their personal or career goals, improve the quality of their lives, and overcome challenges to reach to their goals. Coaching also helps by equipping clients with strategies that will help them do better in the future and even avoid some problems. Coaching is designed to help the client in an area they need help in in life, now how can this apply to the Good Book?
In the Bible, the book of Proverbs is considered “The Book Of Wisdom.” It carries some of life’s deepest lessons and strategies that many of us take for granted. A verse that has always been glued to my mind is in Proverbs 27:17 “Iron sharpens iron” which is the closest thing we can find in scripture that relates to coaching. When two iron swords rub against each other, they become sharpened. Everybody needs guidance and support in some points of their life especially when it comes attempting to achieve their goals. The iron that sharpens the other iron are wise people (including coaches) questioning, supporting, and challenging each other so that they can move up in life.
“Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labor. For if they fall, one will lift up his companion.
But woe to him who is alone when he falls,
For he has no one to help him up.
Again, if two lie down together, they will keep warm;
But how can one be warm alone?
Though one may be overpowered by another, two can withstand him.
And a threefold cord is not quickly broken.” – Ecclesiastes 4:9-12.
Beautifully written by King Solomon, who asides from Jesus was considered the wisest man on earth. This verse paints a picture the service that Charis Coaching provides, as when a client falls down we’re there to help! On a journey to success there will always be challenges, so the best thing to do is have someone who is trustworthy and supportive in your corner. Some writers even suggest that God Himself is the ultimate life coach; because when God asks questions, He does it to challenge the person, and not because He doesn’t know the answer. A great example would be when God asked Moses “What’s in your hand?”
Then Moses said, “What if they will not believe me or listen to what I say? For they may say, ‘The LORD has not appeared to you.’” (2) The LORD said to him, “What is that in your hand?” And he said, “A staff.” (3) Then He said, “Throw it on the ground.” So he threw it on the ground, and it became a serpent; and Moses fled from it. (4) But the LORD said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand and grasp it by its tail”–so he stretched out his hand and caught it, and it became a staff in his hand– (5) “that they may believe that the LORD, the God of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has appeared to you.” – Exodus 4:1-5
Now let’s talk about the greatest man to ever live, our precious Lord & Savior, Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is a preeminent force of illuminance, the greatest teachings ever came from this Man. But before we get into this part, we must acknowledge that Jesus isn’t supposed to be your life coach, but your Lord. Jesus will guide us into making the right decisions by us reading His word and applying it to our lives. Some of the attributes of a coach clearly define Jesus. He had been with disciples for 3 years, and has been their Leader, Servant, Mentor, Pastor, Miracle-Worker, Brother, Friend, and of course their Lord. . What we can learn from the life of Jesus is that even as a leader, we must act as a servant and shed grace onto those around us. Even when we face trial throughout life, we must continue to walk in faith and grace as Jesus did. Do everything in love (1 Corinthians 16:14), operate in grace (2 Corinthians 8:7), walk in faith (2 Corinthians 5:7), and live a life that pleases the LORD (1 Corinthians 10:31 , 2 Corinthians 5:9.)
We understand as coaches that every single human being needs support, so we offer that to the highest extent to those who are looking forward to level up in life, and build themselves to become a more potential-dexterous individual. Life is a gift from God, why not make the best out of it? There is nothing wrong with prosperity or success, but there is only something wrong when that becomes your idol. We must acknowledge that our days are numbered, and that the things we have on earth aren’t transcending with us to the third Heaven. So you as a coach, remember to do everything out of love and faith for the client. God bless.

I have learned a lot! I knew the Bible is the ultimate book of wisdom, but this just goes deeper for coaching!
